Day 20
Take me back to the lesson for Day 19
Here's your suggested reading from Bliss More:
Read as much of Chapter 12 (Chapter 16 in the audiobook) as you can on The Art of Being Adaptable (12 mins)
How to test the power of your meditation in real time
Just in case you're not sure if meditation is working, or you have doubts that you're benefitting from meditation all that much, you're going to perform a simple little experiment...
I call it "The Email Test"
Here's how The Email Test works.
Before you meditate today, pull up an email or text message you have yet to respond to, from someone who is either being passive aggressive with you, or they are accusing you of something that you didn't do.
Write out your response, but DO NOT hit "send!" Keep your response in "draft" mode.
Try to be as thoughtful and compassionate as you can be.
Then, sit for your 20-minute meditation, and be E.A.S.Y. with your inner monkey that will want to rehearse the conversation or think about a thousand other things.
After you emerge from your meditation...
Quietly up pull the draft of your email or text response, re-read it, and edit it accordingly. Then send :)
If everything went according to plan...
You were able to put together an even more thoughtful and compassionate response than the one you wrote before.
And this is the power of your meditation. It allows you to see connections easier and think more clearly. Whenever in doubt about whether or not meditation is working, just perform The Email Test.
Today's Challenge:
Perform The Email Test before you meditate.
Assessment
You should find that your ability to communicate more effectively increases after each meditation. The benefits also apply to other activities as well—such as driving, playing sports, cooking, working on projects, constructing, measuring, etc. Basically, whenever you need to be dynamic in action, you will benefit from meditating beforehand.
Accountability Exercise
Post an image that represents the outcome of your research. How did you feel after you came out of meditation and rewrote your email? Make sure to tag #blissmore and #blissmorechallenge on your post, and take an extra minute to "like" some of the other posts under the #blissmorechallenge hashtag.
Sample accountability post
Today was day 20 of my 21-day #blissmore meditation challenge. We're almost at the end, and this was me after testing out the power of my meditation earlier. Hahaha... #blissmorechallenge
