Ep 122: The Midlife Male with Greg Scheinman
Episode 122: Show Notes
The approach of middle age tends to inspire dread. For too long, we have been told that our “best years” are behind us once we reach midlife, and that all we have to look forward to is the slow decline of our bodies and minds.
But, for many of us, it’s actually the first time that we begin to make sense of life. This realization led performance coach, Greg Scheinman, to create a community where men who have been around long enough to own their mistakes and celebrate their successes could gather to maximize the second half of their lives. He calls it the Midlife Male Movement, devoted to the proposition that the middle is the sweet spot, not the end!
In this episode, Greg shares his story with humor and vulnerability, offering us some insight into the life decisions that led him to where he is today. Listening in, you’ll learn how Greg is taking all of the experiences that he’s had and everything he has learned along the way and applying it to the next phase of his life.
You’ll also hear some practical tips for how to stop seeing midlife as a crisis and start seeing it as an opportunity. Tune in today for a no-BS guide to living a longer, happier, healthier, and wealthier life (and having more fun) in your 40s, 50s, and beyond!

Tweetables:
“The measure of success very much seemed to be salary and title, particularly as a man. We were keeping score. We lived in a town that kept score; the car that you drove, the house that you lived in, the money that you had.” — @gregscheinman [0:13:30]
“I try not to look backwards now. I try not to have any regrets. [You] either win or you learn. You don't lose.” — @gregscheinman [0:58:17]
“It's easy to make things look good. It’s really hard for them to actually be good. For you to authentically feel like things are in a good place, to actually be able to put things in a good place, that’s hard.” — @gregscheinman [1:02:30]
“My father passed away at 47. At 47, my father's life ended. At 47, that's when mine began. That's when I got to start doing what I really enjoy doing.” — @gregscheinman [1:12:43]
“It is, in fact, never too late to start making changes. Don't get fixated on the why. Don't worry even about the how. Just start today, right here, right now, making one better decision, one better choice.” — @gregscheinman [1:18:15]
“Don't make resolutions. Practice resolve. Resolve allows you to go the distance. Resolve is a long-term, sustainable, longevity-based plan of action. When you have resolve, you are making a commitment to yourself.” — @gregscheinman [1:22:02]
